The drama surrounding Hunter Biden just hit a major turning point. Late Sunday, President Joe Biden announced he issued a full pardon for his son Hunter, just weeks before leaving office. This move reversed his earlier pledge not to interfere in Hunter’s legal troubles, which have been a hot topic in politics for years.

Why Hunter Was in Trouble

Hunter Biden’s legal issues started with two big cases:

  1. Gun Charges: In 2018, Hunter bought a revolver but lied on the paperwork about his drug addiction. Under federal law, drug users can’t own firearms.

  2. Tax Evasion: He was also accused of failing to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes while spending millions on a flashy lifestyle, including drugs, escorts, and luxury goods.

Hunter pleaded guilty to tax evasion in September and admitted to lying on the gun form. His sentencing for both cases was supposed to happen this month, but now, with the pardon, those hearings are off the table.

What President Biden Talking About?

In his statement, President Biden defended his decision, claiming his son was unfairly targeted because of their family connection."From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decisions. I kept that promise, even as my son faced selective and unfair prosecution," the president said.

He added, "Hunter was treated differently under similar circumstances. No reasonable person looking at the facts could come to any other conclusion."

What Hunter Say?

Hunter also released a statement, reflecting on his journey and expressing gratitude for the pardon:"I’ve taken responsibility for my mistakes during the darkest days of my addiction. I’ll never take this clemency for granted and will devote my life to helping others who are still struggling."

Hunter has been sober for over five years and credits his recovery to his faith and the support of his family.

Critics Speak Out

Not everyone is happy about the pardon. Two IRS whistleblowers, who previously raised concerns about how Hunter’s cases were handled, called it "a sad day for law-abiding taxpayers to see special privileges for the powerful."

Others argue that Hunter’s treatment was unusual for gun and tax charges, which typically result in less severe penalties when addiction and late tax payments are involved. and yall know Trump had something to say.

What’s Next?

With the pardon, Hunter’s cases in Delaware and California will be formally dismissed. His legal team is working to wrap things up. While this chapter of the Hunter Biden saga is ending, it’s safe to say the political debates surrounding it won’t go away anytime soon.
